- Parabens
Producers use parabens as preservatives in most of the cosmetic products such as in shampoos, soap, shaving cream, conditioner, body wash and even in toothpaste.
In Europe many parabens have been prohibited in cosmetic products.
EU made this decision to ban parabens because they easily penetrate your skin and interefere with hormones. Unsurprisingly, the chemicals have been found in the tumors of not 50%, not 60%, not even 70% but 100% of breast cancer patients.
- Phthalates
Phthalates are used in cosmetics in order to keep them soft. For instance, manufacturers put phthalates in nail polish in order to prevent polish from becoming brittle.
Beside nail polish, you can find phthalates in dodorants, hair products, gloss, etelinier, blushes, etc.
Resesrchers reveal that phthalates accumulate in human cells and increase one’s risk of cancer and reproductive defects.
The really bad news? In a study by the CDC, every person tested had traces of phthalates – no doubt thanks to their prevalence in consumer products.
- Formaldehyde
It may sound horrible, but formaldehyde is a marvel of chemistry. The manufacturers have come up with a way for formaldehyde to be released over time as a preservative, thanks to chemicals like quaternium-15.
This means that the containers of shampoos, deodorants, nail polish and eyelash glue are pretty much engineered to turn into an incresingly toxic sludge.
Formaldehyde is classified as a definite carcinogen and it also raises your risk of insomnina, ADHD, Depression and ALS.
- Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid
Another preservative, commonly known as EDTA, is also used in various skin care products, conditioners, hair bleaches, hair dyes, bath soaps and shampoos.
EDTA has the potential to cause reproductive damage, kidney damage and fetal disability if used on a regular basis.
Ironically (remember, it’s used in skin care products) EDTA can also cause contact dermatitis.
- Propylene Glycol
The Material Safety Data Sheet for propylene glycol instructs us to avoid all contact of the chemical with skin. Sadly, this does not stop cosmetic companies from putting the stuff in lotions in order to enhance the appearance of skin.
The use of this kind of cosmetic can cause dermatitis, mutated cell membrane and inhibited skin growth.
- Toluene
Toluene begins its life in the tolu tree, but it doesn’t stay for long. Manufacturers add it to gasoline and use it to blend other chemicals.
This toxic mix can be found in numerous nail treatment products. They should be avoided because toulene has been linked to severe skin and lung irritation as well as damage to the central nervous system, kidneys and liver.
Moreover, it can cause brain damage and birth defects.
- Talc
Talc often contains carcinogenic asbestos which is why many experts suspect that talk itself is carcinogenic.
This is really concerning because talc is used in baby powders in order to prevent them from caking. Beside baby powder, there are other products that contain talc such as: deodorants, foundation, lotion, eye shadow and lipstic. Fun for the whole family!
